About EAA

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) was founded in 1953 by a group of Wisconsinites interested in building their own airplanes. It is now a worldwide organization representing a wide range of aviation interests and backgrounds, including antiques, classics, warbirds, aerobatic aircraft, ultralights, helicopters, and contemporary manufactured aircraft.

There are thousands of individual chapters, whose members have come together to share their passion, learn more about aviation and share their knowledge, as well as help inspire the next generation of aviators. Follow the link to read more about the EAA.

Chapter 1268

More than 60 members strong, Sonoma Skycrafters (Chapter 1268) was chartered in 1992. Members volunteer their time in the youth programs at Sonoma Skypark as well as other airport events that help raise money for the Air Academy scholarships awarded to young aviation enthusiasts each summer. Each month, the chapter presents a program covering a range of subjects related to homebuilding and general aviation. Anyone interested in aviation is cordially invited to join the members for dinner and an evening’s entertainment.

Each year, the EAA flies its completed build-project plane around to all the chapters that worked on it. That’s our chapter number on the wing in front of us. From left, Serena Kamps, from EAA, Robin Tatman, Darrel Jones, and David Leiting, EAA Young Eagles Coordinator. Photo is from 2018.

Former chapter 1268 Young Eagle Daniel Schulte standing in front of the plane in his first job as a corporate pilot. He’s since moved to another company and made captain. Daniel also made a documentary, For the Love of Flight, about his passion for aviation. You’ll recognize some of the interviewees!
